Story & Notes
The Technics SU-V6 represents an era of Japanese hi-fi engineering focused on performance, reliability and solid construction.
This example has undergone extensive electronic and mechanical restoration, going well beyond a conventional capacitor replacement.
Particular attention was given to the ageing switches, contact assemblies and signal paths — common sources of problems in vintage equipment.
Following restoration, the amplifier demonstrates outstanding measured performance, with extremely low distortion and closely matched channels.
Work Performed
Extensive internal inspection and cleaning.
All switches and contact assemblies disassembled and meticulously cleaned by hand.
Speaker protection relay contacts inspected and serviced.
Electrolytic capacitors replaced.
Output-stage thermal compound renewed.
Operating parameters checked and adjusted according to Technics factory specifications.
Complete functional verification of both channels.
Frequency response, harmonic distortion and noise measurements performed using a QuantAsylum QA403 audio analyzer.
Output-stage testing under an 8 Ω resistive load.
Bench Test Summary
Test equipment: QuantAsylum QA403
Load: 8 Ω, both channels
Test frequency: 1 kHz
THD+N @ 1 W: 0.0122% L / 0.0129% R
THD+N @ 10 W: 0.0051% L / 0.0050% R
THD+N @ 40 W: 0.00294% L / 0.00281% R
THD @ 40 W: 0.00029% L / 0.00072% R
Frequency response: Essentially flat from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
Channel matching: Approximately 0.2 dB.
Tested output: 39.0 W L / 40.6 W R at the highest documented test level (not a maximum-power measurement).

All values are actual bench measurements obtained after restoration.

A classic Japanese integrated stereo amplifier from Technics, combining vintage engineering with excellent audio performance. Meticulously restored, with renewed electronics, manually cleaned switches and contacts, and factory-specification adjustments. Fully bench-tested, delivering exceptionally low distortion, excellent channel matching and a remarkably flat frequency response.
